1. Relationship to Apple's license
Apple's Standard End User License Agreement governs your license to download and use Monk from the
App Store. These Supplemental Terms of Service do not replace, narrow, or duplicate that license.
They govern Stoic AS's optional account, cloud-sync, private-challenge, support, and content services.
If these terms conflict with Apple's Standard EULA on the app license, Apple's Standard EULA controls.
2. What Monk is
Monk is a personal habit, commitment, timer, and reflection tool. It is not a medical device and does
not diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any condition. Elapsed milestones are neutral timing markers,
not predictions or promised outcomes.
Stop fasting or breathwork if you feel uncomfortable, dizzy, faint, confused, or unwell. Practise
breathwork seated or lying down, never in water or while driving, and seek qualified clinical advice
when a health condition, medication, pregnancy, disordered eating, dependency, or other concern could
make a practice unsafe. Contact local emergency services for urgent danger.
3. Optional account services
Monk works without an account. If you explicitly choose cloud sync and Sign in with Apple, Stoic AS
provides optional backup, cross-device sync, private friendships, and private challenges under the
Privacy Policy. Keep access to your Apple ID secure. We may suspend optional online services where
needed to address abuse, security, law, or a material breach of these terms.
4. Acceptable use
Do not use Monk or its online services unlawfully; interfere with their operation or security; access
another person's account or private data; abuse private invitations; or infringe another person's
rights. Legal rights to inspect, interoperate with, or modify software are not restricted where they
cannot lawfully be restricted.
Shared profile names, challenge titles, and shared habit names must not contain harassment,
hateful or sexually explicit material, threats, encouragement of violence, spam, fraud, or content
that infringes another person's rights. Monk filters shared text; private on-device notes and
practice names are not submitted to that filter. Filtering cannot recognize every context, so you
can report shared content and block a person from the options menu beside their name or challenge.
Reports send the relevant shared text and selected reason to Stoic AS for review. We may hide
offending shared content or restrict an abusive account's social features. Contact
[email protected] to raise a concern or request a review of a moderation decision. Reporting
is not an emergency service. Blocking prevents new requests and invitations and hides that person's
shared content; unblocking does not restore a removed friendship. A phone fast already sealed on
your iPhone continues until its normal end.
5. Stoic AS content and third-party material
Stoic AS owns Monk's original software, design, name, and original content. This does not claim
ownership of public-domain source text. Shipped wisdom entries identify their exact work, section or
verse, translator/provenance, and whether the wording is verbatim or adapted. Font licenses and source
notices are recorded in Monk's third-party notices.
6. Availability and system limits
Monk and optional sync are provided subject to device compatibility, Apple's systems, network
availability, and maintenance. Personal timers and calculations can be affected by the device clock
or settings.
Phone fasting depends on Apple's Screen Time system and the permission granted on your device. It can
shield only what iOS permits and cannot remove emergency/system routes, prevent app deletion, or
prevent Screen Time permission being revoked in Settings. Do not rely on it as a parental-control,
security, medical, or emergency mechanism.
7. Consumer rights, warranties, and liability
Mandatory consumer rights in your country always apply. Subject to those rights, optional online
services are provided as available and without a promise of uninterrupted or error-free operation.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud or
for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Stoic AS is not liable for indirect or consequential loss
arising from unavailable optional services. Export important local records and use cloud sync only if
you choose it; local-only data is not backed up by Stoic AS.
8. Changes
The current supplemental terms are posted at https://monkhabits.app/terms. Material changes affecting
optional services will be communicated in the app before they take effect. Changes do not remove
mandatory consumer rights or alter Apple's Standard EULA.
9. Governing law
Norwegian law applies, without removing any mandatory rights or forum protections available in your
country of residence.
